Since web copy makes or breaks the selling ability of your online promotion, let’s liken this to another important decision.

Let’s say your heart is in dire need of an operation because your heart is not pumping the way it should. What kind of doctor would you choose: a general surgeon or a specialized heart surgeon?

I’ll bet if your life depended on it, you’d choose the one who was most likely to succeed in the operation – the specialist.

Now a lot of people today think AI and ChatGPT can write a winning sales page or VSL, or any other marketing copy your company relies on to sell for you.

One of my mentors (Jon Benson) said it best.: AI was not built to replace the specialization that a senior copywriter has amassed in the real world over what AI spits out. When you want to make money online, you still need a proven sales professional copywriter. You simply can’t rely on AI alone to produce entire funnels and an entire business full of digital copy that converts. 

When you’re counting on your sales funnel … or just one email … to bring in the opt-ins, click-throughs, sales, customers, and automated profits you need, you don’t hire a general writer, or use AI to write for you. You hire a specialist with decades of experience and proven expertise.

Seriously… let’s get REAL

There’s waaaay too much sales psychology and human need/desire market Identification required (see Eugene Schwartz and Todd Brown) to grab and hold the brain’s attention down a properly sequenced line of reasoning, and authentically convince the amygdala they MUST HAVE what you’re selling! And to pull out their credit card and click “BUY.”

The idea of specializing in “web copy that sells” was incredibly appealing to me over 20 years ago when I discovered how few truly expert copywriters were available. And believe it or not, all these years later, that’s still the case … even with the latest AI version there to help.

ChatGPT is just that… help. However, it can’t write the prompt for you. It’s me, along with my Marketing AI Certification and years of sales experience, that enables me to use persuasion and difital relationship-building specialist, know what to feed it, how to train it, further hone it, and make Chat my bitch. I’m the leader in AI, not ChatGPT.

In 2024, digital marketing veteran Rich Schefren said… There are so many copywriters out there who claim they’re good, and they’re just not. They’re just not willing to keep training, put their heart and soul into your project, and do the hard work.

To write web copy that sells, a writer needs to stay in study mode, know how to direct AI, remain ever-curious, know the questions that need to be asked, the obstacles that need to be overcome, and has the depth of research skills to mine for what will actually capture and convert online sales.

The necessary skills are even harder to find in a copywriter because it requires constant accumulation of knowledge and good old-fashioned hard work, with AI in the mix, of course. In the never-ending galaxy of internet garbage, copywriters must go the extra distance to do everything it takes to get your customers’ attention and make the sale. Today, that experience is less and less because too many copywriters are relying more and more on ChatGPT to create it for them.

As fast as the internet changes, so must your approach. Copywriting is not cookie-cutter, and if anyone tells you they have the formula to guarantee their copy will work, that’s your clue that they don’t have a clue.

Copywriting is a process that includes research, AI for support, the development of deeply human “copy conversations,” and testing to produce copy that will actually work in the real world, as both the consumer and the way copy is consumed change.

Selling Is My Specialty

I started specializing in writing web copy with my first mentor, Maria Veloso, who at the time was the highest-paid female copywriter in the world. She retired early, but not before I was able to become the one student who most closely mastered her signature copywriting style. It was so rewarding to hear her tell me this, and that her second-best student was 50% behind me in mastery, simply because I kept at it, I wanted it more, and I worked harder for it. Call me crazy, but I’m obsessed with copy that can $ELL!

Even after decades of working in traditional sales and marketing, I soon discovered that mastering the art and skills of writing sales copy was not easy. It has its own set of rules and reasoning.

After studying many of the greatest masters of copywriting, perhaps the best move I made was to be personally trained by who many call the inventor of VSLs, Jon Benson, earning his “3X Sellerator Copywriting” certification. I spent years mastering Jon Benson’s formulas and copywriting strategies, which continue to dominate the internet today with the highest VSL conversions.

Behind everything I think and write are the world’s most tested and proven copywriting strategies and formulas (and now AI of course 😉

Many of the greatest copywriters of all time shared their best-kept secrets with me. Some of them personally mentored me. These are the “jewels of sales copywriting” I have now mastered and pass on in the work I do. Below are just a few of them.
